on a trip to Eastern Crete

Crete: A Journey Through Time
Crete, the largest of the Greek islands, is best known as the legendary home of King Minos and the Minotaur, and as the cradle of the Minoan civilization—first brought to light by early 20th-century excavations. But Crete’s history is far richer and more varied. On this unique trip, we’ll explore a wide range of sites that showcase not only the Minoan legacy but also the lasting influences of the Romans, Venetians, Ottomans, and more recent historical periods.

This journey is designed to blend archaeology, history, culture, and gastronomy into an unforgettable experience. Please note that while most walking will be on flat terrain or within towns, some sites include relatively steep slopes and narrow paths.

Our Base & Itinerary Highlights

Expert Guidance & Tour Details
We are delighted and privileged to have Dr Don Evely as our expert guide for this tour. A former Knossos Curator of the British School at Athens, Dr Evely is a leading authority on Minoan archaeology. His deep knowledge of Cretan history, topography, and material culture will greatly enrich our experience—particularly during coach journeys, when he will offer insights into the landscape and context of the sites we visit.

The tour will be managed by Sarah Green, a long-time enthusiast of Cretan and Greek archaeology. Sarah is a member of Council at the British School at Athens and now spends part of each year living in Crete. Her local knowledge and passion for the island’s history and culture add a further dimension to the tour.
